MILESTONES: JOURNEY

What you can expect from YES, your youth and supervisors, verification milestones, and what you need to do to ensure a successful first YES programme.

STEP 1

CALCULATE YOUR YES TARGET

1.1 Calculate your YES Target.

The YES Calculator allows you to input salient data to calculate your YES target.

What you’ll need:

  • Average NPAT over three years
  • Total headcount
  • Total revenue for latest completed financial year end

Calculate your YES Target using our calculator

STEP 2

Sign up & register programme

2.1. Register your details on the Company Portal to create your unique profile.

The Company Portal has a unique ID and password login and will store all data relevant to your YES journey. Please ensure that you have sent YES your vendor form and that YES has filled it in ‘add web address here’ section or click here.

2.2. Pay your invoice once you’ve registered your programme.

  • Register your 12-month programme, which consists of your target number of quality work experiences you need to create in order to receive your level up(s).
  • Ensure you check and understand our Ts & Cs. Upon registration, the YES system will generate a registration invoice for your entity/business. If your entity/business pays the amount stipulated, the YES Youth placement menu and options will open. It will also generate an official Registration Certificate.

2.3. Wait for the payment to reflect.

Wait 48 hours for the payment to reflect.

STEP 3

SELECT YOUR PLACEMENT MODEL

3.1 Decide whether you want to place your YES Youth internally or externally.

Youth can be placed in one of the below options:

  1. Inside your firm and on your payroll
  2. Outside your firm (on or off your payroll)

If you do not have the capacity to place youth within your own organisation, the YES turnkey solution is for you! YES has 35 vetted Implementation Partners across ten sectors ranging from digital to healthcare, conservation to education and more! Click here to find out more about the YES turnkey solution.

3.2 Pay monitoring and evaluation (M&E) fee for placement and wait 48 hours.

Each placement attracts a per youth once-off fee of R 1,700, R5,000, R7,000, or R9,700. This fee covers a phone, cutting edge content, and important surveys and material for youth and employers.

3.3 Check youth IDs.

Ensure that your youth are South African and that youth have not yet participated in and completed more than eight months of a YES programme before. Determine whether youth are unemployed, and provide the youth  affidavit which can be accessed on the YES website.

STEP 4

UPLOAD YOUR YOUTH INFORMATION

4.1 Upload.

Upload youth, your supervisor and your phone delivery details.

The M&E payment, along with the successful upload of your youth, will trigger phones delivery to youth. You can expect phones to be delivered 4-6 weeks from the date of the successful youth upload.

4.3 Download your B-BBEE verification documents.

Don’t forget to download the all important Registration Certificate and Youth Confirmation Letter.

CONGRATULATIONS YOU HAVE CHANGED A LIFE!

Timeline of what’s next over the coming year

TIMELINE OF WHAT’S NEXT OVER THE COMING YEAR

Internal placement:

Youth

  • Allow your company time to recruit the right youth for the roles you’ll be filling.
  • Once you’ve found your youth, contract them.

Supervisors

  • Ensure you have allocated enough supervisors for the youth, so that you can get accurate reporting, and the youths’ experiences, CVs and reference letters are robust.
  • YES recommends that one supervisor oversees no more than seven youth in order to ensure best mentoring practices.
  • Make sure your allocated supervisors understand what is expected of them in terms of training, and what the YES programme and its goals are.

External placement:

  • If you are placing youth externally through our sponsored host placement model (the turnkey solution), think of the kinds of jobs that would benefit your company’s overall social/environmental strategy, and place youth in a fitting YES-vetted IP.

Contract with your YES-vetted IP(s).

Your YES Youth begin working.

  • A supervisor induction will be scheduled with the YES team to explain the role, access to the Supervisor app, and the importance of completing supervisor surveys.
  • Your supervisors should have also completed the first supervisor survey.

You should expect quite a lot to happen in Month 2 of your YES programme.

Youth induction

  • Once phones have been delivered and RICAed, a digital or face-to-face youth induction will be scheduled with the YES team.
  • The YES induction session takes place with your YES Youth to ensure that youth make the most of their one-year YES work experience! This session aims to get your youth to engage with their work-readiness modules on the YES4Youth app, and with the monitoring and evaluation app (YESLife).

In order to receive a robust first company report from YES in your second month, ensure the following:

App engagement – youth

    • Baseline survey to be completed by youth.
    • App engagement will aid in the achievement of a CV and reference letter for the youth, as well as the ability for your business to claim up to 50% of its skills development spend back (Category F and G).
    • Baseline survey to be completed by youth.
  • By the end of month 2, youth should be 20% of the way through their modules.
  • Ensure youth are submitting data through both the YES4Youth and YESLife mobile applications for the optimisation of your programme.

App engagement – supervisors

  • Ensure supervisors are submitting data through the Supervisor mobile application surveys for the optimisation of your programme.

Getting prepared for verification for programmes

Keep up-to-date with how your programme is performing

  • You will receive the quarter 2 company report.
  • Keep checking your youth data on the Company Portal to keep abreast of your youth, their progress, and any drop-offs (drop-offs need to be replaced within a month).

Drop-offs

  • It is a possibility that during the course of your programme, some youth may drop out. This can happen for various reasons. If more than 5% of your registered YES Youth drop out, the difference will need to be replaced. For example, if you have 50 youth uploaded, and four drop off, you will need to replace two (50 x 5% = 2.5).
  • If any of your youth drop off after month 8, there is no need to find replacements.

The offboarding process begins in Month 8.

App engagement – youth

  • Ensure youth complete the endline survey.
  • Youth should have completed 80% of their online modules by month 8.
  • Ensure youth are submitting data through both the YES4Youth and YESLife mobile applications for the optimisation of your programme.

Offboarding your youth

  • A template of the CV and reference letter for the youth will be generated and sent to supervisors at month 8.
  • Ensure all youth documents and contact details are up to date for tracking and verification purposes.
  • Identify and begin informing youth and YES of absorption on the Company Portal.

App engagement – supervisors

  • At month 10, all supervisors must complete the fourth (and final) supervisor survey.
  • Ensure supervisors are submitting data through the Supervisor mobile application surveys for the optimisation of your programme.

Supervisors

  • In month 11, the CVs and reference letters should be complete and reviewed by supervisors.
